All New Low

erratic_prophet | 27 October, 2006 14:19

Lately, I've been on a pill popping frenzy. Not illegal drugs, mind you, all prescribed. My gyno's been switching my birth control to a lower dosage hormone to, hopefully, cut back my migraines, but, unfortunately, my insurance doesn't cover the one he gave me, so I'm switching to a different one in a few days time when this pill pack runs out. By the way, anyone have any experience with Ortho Tricyclen Lo? That's what I'll be switching too and I'm hoping I don't become too loopy. I've been horribly hormonal this month, suffering from mood swings and break outs. But not all of that can be blamed on the birth control. Another pill would be to blame for some of that..

My primary care physician is determined to find something to stop my migraines. He insists that I shouldn't have to suffer. I'd like to agree, but nothing really seems to work. My migraines are pretty bad and stem from hormonal causes. I get them twice a month for nearly a week-- sometimes the entire week or more-- at a time. That's more than half of my time with a migraine. I take Immitrex for it, but that only stops the migraine once it starts. It doesn't prevent one from coming on. So the doctor put me on Inderal LA.

Unfortunately, Inderal is also blood pressure medicine. I have good blood pressure, but he figured that at the low dose they were using, nothing would happen. Oh, only if that were true..

During work last Saturday night, I got really sick. I'd been periodically sick since starting the medicine. Nausea, some dizziness. All normal side effects of the medicine. On this night, it was bad. I actually had to sit on the floor at one point because I wasn't sure if I was going to vomit, pass out or both. I wound up going home a few minutes early, telling one of the managers that I wouldn't be able to come in the next day.

The next day, I call in at work at 8 AM, notifying them that I'm still very sick and won't be in at 10 AM. I go back to bed and pass out until I hear a frantic message left on my phone at 11 AM, when the store opened. It was one of the managers wondering where I was. I call back and get shrieked at for a few minutes, forcing me to raise my voice in turn to get her to shut the hell up and calm down a minute. I then let her know that I left a message on the work's Call Out Line at 8 AM and didn't she ever check messages? I then told her how to open up my department, told her no, I wasn't coming in because I was sick and couldn't see straight and she'd have to deal with it on her own. I then went back to bed, pissed off.

I later got an effusive apology from the manager I talked to the night I got sick because he screwed up and woke up late and didn't tell the other manager about my being sick. I told him that she would've known for herself if she'd done her job and checked the messages, not wandered into my department when the store opened and realized I wasn't there. Not only that, a manager should know how to open any department in the store. But enough of that. What caused my sickness?

Well, apparently, the low dose of Inderal was enough to drop my blood pressure. And drop it did. Very low. I probably should've gone to the hospital instead of home, but I avoid hospitals like the plague. I stopped taking the medicine before going-- I was on the lowest dosage and considered it safe to stop-- to the doctor and later confirmed with the doctor that it was, indeed the medication making me sick. So, unfortunately, I still have to wait a while for this crap to finish making its way out of my system and have the occasional heart palpitation until it does.

He's now put me on Topamax. It's a seizure medication also used in treating migraines. If anyone knows anything about that, too, let me know. So far, it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Good or bad. But then, my body's all screwy from all of the different medicines I've been throwing at it lately. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel.

On top of that, I've got a crazy who works with me and is bothering me. The looney, who was there that night I took ill at work, called me the very same night at 1 AM. Repeatedly. Like 5 times in 10 minutes. Without leaving a message. Just hanging up and calling again. Until I answered and screamed, nearly waking the entire house. Yeah, that was fun. Can't wait till I see her at work...

Did I mention that on top of nearly killing myself through medication, killing a manager, nearly quitting-- for the millionth time-- my job, and dealing with a female stalker, I'm also looking for a new job? Oh, yes, pile on the pain. I haven't had enough.

You need to go to about.com & click on migraines & then find Topamax. It's a lot of normal people just giving their thoughts. For me, it was a disaster, thought I was on LSD until I got used to it. Then I went from 5 headaches a month to 4 so it wasn't worth it. It does work for a lot tho. Good Luck!

If Immitrex by prescription only? Just in case I need to use it in the future. As of now I am using something else for my migraines which ALSO last a week at a time.

And female stalker? The scariest kind might I say.
Hope you feel well soon.

Dee- Immitrex is prescription only. It comes in a packet of 9 pills. If I'm careful, I can eke that out the whole month.

Female stalkers are the worst. She's not my first, unfortunately.

For me, it's that I contributed, ... That I'm on this planet doing some good and making people happy. That's to me the most important thing, that my hour of television is positive and upbeat and an antidote for all the negative stuff going on in life.

You can't just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they'll want something new.
